Hospital Pictures-Harrison Side

I wanted to make sure I had a picture of Georgia Grace with all her family members from the hospital. Since our family is HUGE, I will break it up into a few posts ha!

GGH and her "Grandpa" Harrison
This is such a sweet picture. I know these two are going to be big buddies! But she won't be riding the Harley anytime soon ha!
"Grandma" Harrison
I don't think she is a bit proud ;) You can tell GGH is pretty content in those arms!

Aunt Shanna
Look at how wild her hair is in this picture! We had told Shannon and Shanna it would probably be safe to come up later in the morning so thankfully they came earlier than we told them to or they would have missed it!

Georgia and her Grandmomma-doesn't she look like a fat little thing in this picture? And that expression cracks me up! Grandmomma will be keeping her on Mondays,Tuesdays, and Fridays when I go back to work so they will definitely have a special bond.

Granddad holding his great-granddaughter for the first time. I think he's pretty smitten with her! He made her changing table and her closet armoire is from granddad and grandmomma. I am so thankful for his skill set, both of those nursery pieces are so special to us.

We didn't get a picture of Georgia with her Meme Harrison so we will be sure to do that over the holidays.

Georgia Grace had a check-up yesterday and everything continues to look perfect! She had gained 10 oz in 10 days which the doctor says is exactly where she should be (yay!) and she is now 20 1/2 inches long! I was so relieved to hear that she is gaining weight like she should be. Breastfed babies have a tendency to lose more weight and have trouble gaining it back but not this girl :). She will start receiving Vitamin D droplets daily since that is the only vitamin not found in breastmilk and due to babies having limited exposure to sunlight. She will continue to receive that as long as she gets breastmilk. Her pediatrician said that everything looked so well that it wasn't necessary to come in again until her 2 month check-up! Woohoo! I am so thankful for my big healthy baby girl.

Meeting Uncle Jake and Supporting Our Team

As I mentioned earlier, my brother-in-law was called out on storm duty the night before Georgia was born. He was sent to the Bronx in NYC to help restore power to the hundreds of thousands that were without following Superstorm Sandy. After two weeks he is finally home!

Uncle Jake and Georgia Grace meeting for the first time. The Pike shirt she has on was a gift from him and one of the first pieces of clothing she had!
He may hate me for telling this but I'm going to anyway. Just as a disclaimer Jake hasn't had much exposure to babies :). So the day she was born my sister-in-law Shanna told him, "She's already said Uncle Jake two or three times". He replied, "Really?" HA! We have got a big kick out of that at his expense bless his heart! He's a good sport though. This will be a great learning experience for him!

Last night was also an exciting night because the Cats were playing their arch-rival Duke. The ending wasn't what we had hoped for but the season just started and our team has so much potential! This picture is very special to me because Marcus is wearing an old UK shirt that was my papaw Porters and the outfit Georgia is wearing was a gift from him before he went home to be with the Lord. We are carrying on the tradition for him!

My Girl GGH

I am going to post more pictures from the hospital soon but for now I wanted to share some super cute pictures of Georgia Grace from this week!

This picture reminds me so much of my sister Paige. I posted it on Facebook and that was the general consensus from everyone else too! You know Paige is just eating this up!

And look at how long she looks in this picture! She was 19 inches at birth, Marcus had me to get the tape measure out to measure her this night and she appears to be well over 20 inches already.

We had newborn pictures taken by Julia last Friday. What an eventful experience that was ha! Georgia does not like being naked or doing anything but eating or sleeping so I'm sure we were difficult even though Jules would never tell me that :). I know they will be great! I will post them very soon!

And here she is sporting some legwarmers! We had socks on but had already lost them at this point. I wonder is every baby that way? We can't keep socks on her for anything. I think the legwarmers are darling and I see us investing in more in the future.

Today us girls (+ Owen) are enjoying a quiet day at home. Temperatures are dropping this week so I see lots of baby cuddling in the near future!

Georgia's Birth Story

I want to make sure I document the whole story of Georgia's birth from start to finish so I don't forget one detail. I know she will enjoy reading this someday!

I went to the doctor on Friday October 27th to find out I had progressed further to 70% thinned and 2 cm. My doctor thought I could go into labor over the weekend but if not we decided to schedule an induction for the following Tuesday!

By Monday night we still didn't have a baby so we prepared for heading to the hospital.
Here is my last picture taken before Georgia arrived. I don't typically post bare belly pictures but I want to remember how I looked 10 months pregnant and this is my blog so here it is :).

We left Monday night at about 11:15 and I told Marcus I thought maybe I was feeling contractions but I wasn't sure. When we got to the hospital, I was having contraction 3 minutes apart and was 80% and 4 cm! Baby girl was probably coming on her own Tuesday anyway! They couldn't believe I really wasn't feeling the contractions ha!

I got all checked in and from 1am-5am I was given a medication to help finish dilating and thinning my cervix. At 5:30am they started my pitocin. I was at 6cm and went ahead and requested my epidural before I progressed too far. The epidural was wonderful!!

I napped from 8:15-9:15 at my doctor's recommendation, he thought I was several hours away from delivering a baby.

When my mom came to check on me I told her I felt like I needed to push. She told the nurse who decided to check me and I was 100% and 10 cm at this point! The nurse called my doctor who came running down the hall ha! I started pushing at 9:25 am and Georgia Grace Harrison entered this world at 9:35 am!

The feeling I had when they laid her on my chest for the first time is an experience I will never forget. The thing I had been waiting 10 months for was finally safe and sound in my arms!

She was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Ten fingers, ten toes, a good healthy cry-perfection! All I could do was cry with happiness and thanksgiving!

Her stats- 8 lbs 2 oz and 19 in long. The doctor was surprised at how much she weighed! He was guessing 7 1/2 lbs. Right before they took her to the scales to weigh her I guessed 8lbs 2oz which was my original guess and I was right!

Daddy finally got to show her off to the anxiously awaiting family and friends. They all said it felt like eternity ha!

I can't get enough of this picture. God has blessed me with more than I deserve!

I had to post a booty shot :) It's just too cute not to! She will be upset by this one day I'm sure ha!

Look at all of that dark hair! As soon as Marcus could see her head he told me, "Her hair is long enough to braid!" HA!

Then it was time for her first bath! I have a super cute video that I will try to post sometime.

Around 12 we were moved to our regular room where family and friends were anxiously awaiting. We had around 30 people waiting to meet our precious girl. Everyone couldn't wait to get their hands on her. We have a big family so everyone had to give quick lovins :).

By Thursday afternoon we were ready to head home!

Daddy made this sign for her the night before we went to the hospital.

Our Aunt Paula made this beautiful diaper wreath that we hung on the hospital door and then hung on our door at home. Everything on it is usable so we will be disassembling soon if I can part with it ha!

Our family of four :) Owen was SO excited to see all three of us! He didn't eat for two days following her coming home because he was so busy watching out for her. He has resumed eating again thankfully, we were starting to get worried about him.

All in all, I had a very easy labor and delivery and I praise God for providing that for me! Georgia Grace is such a blessing to us and we thank God for choosing us to be her earthly parents. Let the journey begin!!

Our First Week

My baby is already a week old! She has done so well during her first week. She is a good sleeper and a big eater-she's about to wear this momma out :).

We had a bellyache one night and it broke my heart to see her in pain. Thank goodness my mother-in-law was staying with us so she helped me through it. Here's a tip we learned for all you moms out there dealing with belly issues- take a warm towel (we used a receiving blanket), roll it in a big ball, place it on their belly and then swaddle her up in another receiving blanket. She had instant relief! I shared this tip with my cousin that gave birth the same day I gave birth to Georgia and it worked for them too! It's all about learning those little tips and tricks.

Last night was our first night on our own. She went to sleep about 11 (right after the presidential election results were announced, guess she was curious ha!), woke up at 1:30 and 4:30 and then slept until 9! I asked God to be with us as we were both anxious about our first night and He provided like always. Marcus got up with us once to help get her back to sleep. I'm so thankful for a supportive and helpful husband! He has been so attentive this first week just like I knew he would be.

Here are her coming home pictures from the hospital. I just love them!

I love kissing those big cheeks!

Her "Georgia Grace" bloomers <3

AND---I have to post this!! Congrats to my girls cross-country team! They became Region Runners-Up and are headed to the KHSAA state championship meet Saturday! This is the first time we have been Region Runners-Up in 9 years! I turned the team over to my assistants in mid-October and I can't thank them enough for the job they have done in my absence. Everyone came together as a big family when I took off for my baby and I think that is a direct reflection of the success they experienced. Way to go BCXC!

Our First Outing

Today was Georgia's one week doctors appointment and our first time getting her out and about. She did so good! Slept the whole way there and the whole way back. I think she's going to be a good traveler.

Here she is all fancy for her first outing! I think pink is her color.

Everything looked great. There is nothing more relieving than hearing your baby is healthy! She showed herself a little by peeing on her pediatrician ha! At least we didn't #2 on him.

And I had to post this pic of her "Georgia peach" outfit! I embroidered/appliquéd the onesie and my friend Rachel added the ruffle to the butt! I could just eat her up!

Our friend Tina made this for her and I absolutely love it! She is so talented. It matches her nursery so well.

We are lucky daddy is off work today and tomorrow for the election. It's been so nice having him home this first week. We are going to miss him so much when he goes to work but you can guarantee there will be two happy girls when he gets home each afternoon! :)

Happy Halloween & Going Home

We celebrated Halloween a little differently this year :)
We had a great day #2 celebrating Halloween in the hospital. We typically have somewhere between 500-700 trick-or-treaters so this year we caught a break ha! We had so many visitors. I would list them all but I know I would forget someone-thank you to all who came and loved on our baby girl. She will never be short of someone to hold her or love her!
We were discharged home on Thursday. Look at my big girl filling out that carseat! The quilt is one that my mamaw Embry made for her, it has ties that attach to the carseat. It will be perfect this fall/winter. The hospital took some great Going Home pictures for us that I will post soon! She was all decked out of course.

Here is the banner we were welcomed home to from Marcus' third grade class! I cried like a baby when I saw it. It was so sweet and I loved reading all of their messages. Marcus was able to Facetime with them today from home and I think they all really enjoyed that! I heard one of them say, "She's cuter than you Mr. Harrison" HA!

We are home and adjusting well. Big doggy brother Owen is totally in love with her. Anytime she wimpers or cries, he comes running and looks at us like, "Do something!" ha! We are transitioning well and enjoying being home in our normal environment. My mom and mother-in-law are alternating staying the night with us this first week and I know they will be a HUGE help to us in the days ahead as we are still a litttle "green" to parenting. But we are learning! We have also had other family members helping out tremendously by running errands, picking up things at the store, etc. We are blessed with such a strong support system and that has never been more apparent than now.
