Week Recap

Just dropping in to do a quick recap of our week. This week has been a perfect example of God's faithfulness for His children that love Him. The world is full of critics but the other 99.9% are so much louder than the insignificant ones. I'm thankful to be surrounded by friends, family and colleagues that build me up. I saw Jesus tangibly this week as He protected and guided us. And He has rewarded us in big ways! More on that at a later time :)

Thursdays with Mommy this week included a quick trip to Bowling Green. Our cupboards were bare so a trip to Aldi was necessary. She had just woke up from her nap and was still in a sleepy daze but too excited to keep sleeping. She LOVES the grocery store.

But she roused in time to pick out a bouquet of flowers for her Grandmomma's birthday. I let her pick out which one she liked best and she chose beautiful white, yellow and pink daisies with pink wrapping. Good choice sister! When I held up a few for her to choose from she pointed at the one she wanted and said, "Dis momma". Heart. Melted.

Thursdays with Mommy included Aunt Paigey this week. If we make a trip south we always meet Aunt Paigey for lunch. We all look so happy! Georgia Grace has a strong selfie game.

She wanted to "go-go" with her. I told her she was going back to work and we were going home to see Dada. That did the trick ha!

Thursday afternoon we went to our cousin Brennan's tennis match. Little Miss Priss decided it was time to model and struck her best pose. We are 17 months going on 17. I can't get over how big she is looking as of late. Don't worry, she's still in footed jams at bedtime. I'm holding onto baby as long as I can.

I couldn't miss an opportunity to capture my two favorite people with the beautiful blooms behind them. They are absolutely gorgeous right now [and so are the blooms :)]. I think it's a shame they do not stay bloomed any longer than they do. Just like at every community event we attend he had students come up to him to say hi and give him a hug. It was a beautiful example for his compassion and calling to teach!

The tennis champ! His team is 8-1 on the season. He won his match yesterday 8-0 as an 8th grader playing on the high school team! We are so proud of him and can't wait to see what the future holds for his tennis career.

I hope you were able to see Jesus as much this week as we have. He works for the good of the people that love Him. I'm so glad I'm one of those people!

TGIF

I have been anxious for Friday with much anticipation for the "Battle of the Bluegrass"! We play Louisville in the Sweet Sixteen game in Indianapolis tonight. We have a strict dress code at my hospital with one exception-the NCAA tournament when state schools are in the tournament. Today will be seas of blue and red no doubt.

Highlights from our week:
Baby girl has been sitting in the preschool circle at AKK on the mornings she is with gram but just this week she has started participating in Show & Tell. Aunt Shanna got her saying "Uhhhh" before words because there was a book that she read her about colors and before she would pick a color to add suspense she would say "Uhhhh" first. Hilarious! I can't believe she's big enough to be participating in preschool already.

Tuesday I had the privilege of going to a local elementary school to observe a school lunch and gym class as part of a population health committee. I know school foodservice has a bad reputation but I was impressed with the meal we received. Whole grains, lean proteins, and fresh fruits and vegetables were all on the menu. This is the generation we must target to change lifestyle habits and create a healthier population.

Tuesday night I had a court date for the first time in my life. I received a parking ticket at the beginning of the month that I contested related to the ice storm and safety (I could not see the yellow lines) and I won!! It was nerve-wracking. I had to appear before five judges, it was filmed and I had to take a legal oath. It was serious business but all worth it when it was waived.

Yesterday Georgia Grace and I attended Career Day at my old high school. Since my mom is a high school business teacher I had a built-in babysitter so I didn't have to take time away from her on my day off. I had a small group of potential nutrition majors and we had some great conversations. I hope I was able to make a difference!

I caught this little cutie standing in the hallway practicing her new mooing like a cow trick :) We are learning animal sounds right now and it's the cutest thing ever. She actually went and got one of her animal books from her room last night and brought it to me to read to her. I hope she is always interested in learning and that it comes easy for her.

It has been nine years since I walked these hallways as a high school student. I will be planning our 10 year class reunion next summer. My former teachers were so sweet to me, I felt like I had never left.

Yesterday afternoon Aunt Ash came over so we could see her new piece of jewelry-she is engaged!!!  I told her mom I was almost as excited for this engagement as I was my own ha! I couldn't be more happy for her and James. What a breathtaking beach bride she will be!

Georgia Grace was over taking pictures for the day as you can tell. I told Marcus when he came home from school that I had disciplined her more today than I ever have before. I felt like "No" was my word of the day and I was constantly redirecting her. It was mostly safety-related redirection due to her climbing and standing on chairs, playing in the trash can, and running toward the street while I was getting stuff out of my car. We have seen a streak of defiancy this week out of our strong-willed child. Bless her heart she didn't stand a chance in that department ha! We are staying strong and practicing tough love in order to do what's best for her.

Well that recap became quite lengthy but I had quite a bit to cover. I'm looking forward to a slow weekend at home with my family. Spring Break starts today at 3:30 pm for Marcus and we have a couple fun trips planned for the end of next week I am super excited about.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend and GO BIG BLUE!

A Day In The Life

Georgia was just a baby when I did a post that went through the ins and outs of a typical day for us so I thought it would be a good time to do another one. This blog is my family's scrapbook and I know I will appreciate looking back at what a typical day looked like at this exact time in our lives.

If you've been following along for a while you know that I get to be a SAHM on Thursdays. I absolutely love that about my job. I am able to have a career and provide for my family and still experience being at home with her. And she gets to spend her other days with her great-grandmothers. I truly have the best of both worlds.

On Thursdays GGH is my alarm clock so she decided 7a on the dot was wake up time (9 o'clock bedtime and no wake ups through the night-yahoo!).

Good morning angel baby!

We start off our day with a bottle and morning snuggles. I love this time when she's still sleepy but starting to rise. This particular morning she was not ready to get her day started so I just rocked her and she slept another 2 hours until 9a! I sat and held her the whole time. Babies don't keep.

After our morning nap it was time for breakfast. Georgia Grace LOVES cooking. She seriously loves to be in the kitchen. I have learned to crack eggs with one hand and open cabinet doors with my toes just so she can be a part of meal prep. Breakfast this morning was scrambled eggs, "O's", a mandarin orange and milk-yum! (She was upset in the picture because I put her in her high chair so I could transfer eggs from the skillet to her bowl-told you.) Also you can see Owen lurking in the background. He gets breakfast scraps :)

After breakfast I found Owen in one of his favorite spots. He loves looking out our living room windows.
After breakfast we got cleaned up and dressed for the day (she did at least, it was an all-day pajama day for me!). Most days when we stay home I keep her in footed jams but today we were taking her 15 month picture so she spruced up a bit. Mommy and baby selfie in her nursery as she's waving to the camera :)

I took some funny ones including this one that I posted to facebook. Loved the sweet comments from my family and friends! Everyone that knows her was not surprised by that picture ha!

We played in her nursery and in the living room for the rest of the morning until it was time for lunch and to see daddy.
We live close enough to Marcus's school that he can walk to work so he walks home during his lunch break too. What a sweet treat for us! I look forward to seeing him and his daughter and pup definitely do.

Lunch happened and I didn't take a picture. I ate leftover mexican casserole and she had some mac and cheese and veggie snacks. She wasn't very hungry after a late breakfast.

By 1 o'clock she was ready for a nap. She normally doesn't sleep this much but she had her 15 month shots the day prior so I think that was some of it.

I absolutely love watching her sleep. And taking her picture while she's doing it.
(Thanks again Darcy for the adorable valentine pj's!)
From different angles.

I'm obsessed.
Breathing in these sweet moments.

When I finally pulled away from starring at my sleeping beauty, it was on to laundry. I don't have a laundry room, I have a laundry closet so my dining room serves a dual purpose. I like to dry my clothes for about 20 minutes and then let me air dry them to finish. My dad taught me that trick a long time ago and I still do it.

I lied when I said my dining room served  a dual purpose because actually it's a trifecta-dining room, laundry, and sewing room (My pantry cabinet is also in there so four purposes!). My machine has been acting up so I decided it was time for a good cleaning. Sure enough that fixed my problem.

My Mamaw Carolyn also stopped by to bring us all this fruit she bought for us! I am an Aldi produce snob and she knows it so she picks up some goodies for us when she makes a trip. She knows the way to my heart!

Marcus and cousin Keagen came home from school and headed out to get a haircut for Keagen. He got a 'bama bangs cut and it was so cute. His words:
"I never knew I could look this good!"
"I was at 100% and know I guess I'm at 150%."
So humble. So hilarious!

At 4:30 (a 3 1/2 hour nap!!) Georgia Grace woke up to see one of her favorite cousins!

She was so excited she started running in her crib!

Daddy, Keagen, and GGH played while I started supper. Keagen was on his way in the pit when I took this picture.

For dinner I fixed Taco Chili and Funfetti Gooey Cake Bars. I don't normally fix a dessert but I saw this recipe and had to try it! The taco chili was excellent. Marcus bragged and bragged on it. He has been so proud of me and my recent monthly menu planning project. That in itself motivates me.

Keagen went home and daddy and Georgia were on their own while I slaved away in the kitchen. I heard a commotion and looked over and witnessed this all too familiar scene. She had got into Owen's dog food and Marcus was disciplining her (#reallife). She knows better but she just loves playing in it so much. Bless it she has a hard life! ;)

The finished product of the funfetti bars.
I think I was suppose to make my balls of dough smaller on top because this is how they're suppose to look, the balls all melting together. Oh well, it didn't change the taste. You learn as you go!

I cleaned up the kitchen and then we decided we would take the dessert over to my Mamaw Carolyn's to share it with her. Georgia Grace hopped in her lap first thing for a snack. We visited and watched some ballgames and then headed back home around 9:15.

She fell semi asleep on the way home so I rocked her and gave her a bottle before putting her to bed at 10pm. I picked a perfect day to do a day in the life for her sleeping schedule! She's trying to make a liar out of me :)

After I put her down for bed, I take my shower, lay out my things for the next day, set out the camcorder for Film Friday, and feed Owen. An adorable clothing company called Georgia Grace (crazy cool!) released some of their Spring 2014 line last night and I fell in love with this top. I haven't pulled the trigger yet but I may have to. She needs a few pieces with her name in them! :)

I check social media and do my Jesus Reading (current-Love Does by Bob Goff). Always time well spent.

Bedtime. Tomorrow starts in approximately 6 1/2 hours.

So that's what a typical, very boring and very real day looks like at the Harrison Homeplace. Thanks for hanging with me and enduring the 26 iphone quality pictures! It was a fun day at home living life with the ones I love most.

Five On Friday

One
We have our first turkey handprint artwork. This may be my favorite children's craft of all time. I can't wait to watch that hand grow year after year.

I found this picture on Pinterest and I feel like it needs to be recreated by the Harrison family. I just love it and I could display it every season.

Two
Tuesday night we went over to my mom's house to watch the UK game (which come to find out was blacked out in our area-bah humbug!) and mom wrangled GGH for me so I was able to spend an hour of uninterrupted time on Pinterest while we listened to the game on the radio. It was a really awesome hour. I have missed "Pie-interest" as my FIL calls it :)

I am swooning over white kitchens. The only thing I have told Marcus that is a definite for our new house is that it will have a white kitchen.

Who am I kidding? I have told him hundreds of definites for the new house :) Must. Stay. Off. Pinterest.

Three
Ebates. I love Ebates! I started using this site a couple of years ago and I have probably made $100 over the course of time. It is super simple. All you have to do is sign up here and every time before you make purchases online go to Ebates and click on your store and you will earn cash back!

Every quarter they will mail you a check for your cash back. With the holiday season and Cyber Monday coming up, now would be a great time to join. You can thank me later! Can't beat free money.

Four
I received my first text from Georgia Grace this morning. They grow up so fast!

Five
I spent the day yesterday Christmas shopping and running errands with my favorite girl. I can't brag on her enough for how good she did! She did try to run away from me in the mall once and threw items I had placed in the cart out of the cart at the grocery store but she was happy while she was doing all of these things! She is rotten.

She waved at everyone and tried to talk to most of them. She stole the show everywhere we went. Who could resist a super cute waving smiley baby in a fur vest and winter hat?

This picture is a pretty big deal because Georgia Grace has never been one to give herself her own bottle. It's so funny because as soon as she gets it to her mouth and we help her she let's go and let's us feed her. Sippies too. Total diva move! :) But I thank she has finally reluctantly given in to doing it herself.

We ended the trip with a stop at the grocery store (Aldi) and I had to take a picture like I did last time. There is only 6 weeks difference so not a lot of change but her hair is longer and she looks more girl-ish instead of baby :(. I love my grocery shoppin' Georgia!

Happy Friday y'all!
