Georgia brace Grace

We have started a new season of life. Braces. As with all things, Georgia is our first child to experience the process but I’m confident will not be the last. There’s zero chance between their daddy and me for straight teeth. Thank you Lord for the gift of orthodontics!

Let’s start at the beginning.

Our first orthodontist consultation was November 2019 following a routine dentist check-up. She had enough permanent teeth to let us know braces would be needed and to identify some problems we would be facing. I just love this picture of sis, she looks excited for the process.

They were able to identify she has spacing issues along with a missing permanent teeth. At first we thought it was two (one top, one bottom) but later we would conclude it’s just one on top. Early treatment would be helpful in preventing more severe complications in the future.

Fast forward to April 2021 and this girl is ready for her big day! It was turkey and dressing day at school (delayed due to covid) so we grabbed a to-go plate and she ate her last meal on the way to her appointment. She was pumped!

Masks are still mandated and once they took her back I had to wait for her to be finished in the car. Crazy times.

My angel! A final before picture. It’s hard to believe at eight she’s already ready for braces! I’m secretly glad we were able to get started early so she didn’t have to deal with being self conscious about her teeth. Those were not fun days for me.

She’s officially “Georgia brace Grace” as we’ve nicknamed her for about 12 months :)

She likes the way they look! She was a little nervous before but she did great.

She has phase one braces and a palate expander for now.

She has had small bouts of pain but nothing a little Tylenol couldn’t help. We’re still eating soft foods (it’s been two weeks) but she’s slowly incorporating normal food back into her diet. She has missed her meat and potatoes :)

She instantly looks older! It hurts my mama heart a little.

This was about day ten and you can already see the effects of the expander with the space between her front teeth. Bless her heart I know that doesn’t feel great! She’s a tough one.
